What you can see

Where the data comes from

Positions and timetables come from Renfe Operadora. The map lines come from OpenStreetMap and Renfe. The 3D view uses PNOA orthophotos from the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (CC BY 4.0 scne.es) and terrain from Mapzen Terrain Tiles, produced using Copernicus data and information funded by the European Union (EU-DEM layers). The site is inspired by Vía Libre.

Frequently asked questions

How often does it update?

Renfe publishes positions every 15 seconds for long and medium distance trains, and every 20 seconds for Cercanías. The site checks for new data every 5 seconds.

Why are Iryo and Ouigo missing?

Because they do not publish the position of their trains in real time.

What are AVE, Avlo, Media Distancia and Cercanías?

They are Renfe train types. AVE and Avlo are high-speed services, Alvia and Intercity are long-distance, Avant and Media Distancia link nearby cities, and Cercanías are commuter trains around large cities.

What time zone are the times in?

All times are Madrid time.

Is the speed exact?

No. It is calculated between two GPS positions, so it is an estimate and is sometimes unavailable.

How are the times of the next stops calculated?

They are the Renfe timetable plus the train's current delay. Future times are estimates.

How does the site know which train I am on?

With the I'm on a train button, your device compares your position, speed and direction with the trains published by Renfe. Your position is neither stored nor sent to any server.

Does the site tell me whether I am entitled to compensation?

It gives a guide based on the punctuality commitment published by Renfe. What counts is the delay on arrival at your destination, and the final decision always lies with Renfe.

Is this an official site?

No. It is a personal, independent project, not affiliated with Renfe or Adif.

Can it be used in emergencies?

No. It is an informational website with estimated data. For incidents and emergencies, check the official channels.
